Friday, June 5th, 2009Naveen Jain is the charismatic CEO and cofounder of Intelius, Inc., a leading online information and security provider that does background checks, pre-employment screening, people lookup services and identity theft prevention. He has managed to overcome geographical and cultural barriers in order to arrive at his height of success. Independent-minded and driven at a young age, he believed in the power of education to help him achieve his goals.
Born and raised in India, he went to the US in 1979 after obtaining his undergraduate Engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in Roorkee and an M.B.A. from St. Xavier’s School of Management. In 1989, he worked with Microsoft Corporation as a senior executive, building operating systems and applications and eventually leading efforts to launch the Microsoft Network. Thereafter, he formed InfoSpace in 1996 and Intelius in 2003, earning recognitions and distinctions along the way, such as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist in 1998 and citation as “one of the Top 20 Entrepreneurs” by Red Herring for 1997.
Strengthened by his experience and inspired by the youth’s enthusiasm to pursue their ambitions, Naveen Jain has committed to support the growing community of young innovators through education and entrepreneurial programs. Intellius’ resources have allocated scholarship endowments, and provide mentoring and guidance for youth entrepreneurs.
Naveen Jain was instrumental in the formation of Kairos Society, an exclusive entrepreneurial tribe of top college students from 18 different campuses in the country. It recently held its 1st Annual Summit in New York City with Jain as a speaker and Intelius as its Founding Title Sponsor.
Another notable effort is the establishment of a scholarship endowment worth $170,000 to fund the education of deserving but economically challenged students at the University of Washington. The fund prioritizes students taking computer science and engineering and business courses.
The company also supported the student conference “Adventures of the Mind”, a four-day mentoring summit organized by the Student Achievement Advocacy that aims to bridge the gap from potential to achievement.
