New Browser Promises Four Times Faster Speeds
Friday, March 27th, 2009After Microsoft announced that it is interested in the netbook market as it saw it as a lucrative one, Opera has come out and increased the heat in the marketplace with a new product.
In an attempt to live up to its objective of providing the best internet experience to all users across devices, Opera has developed a new browser that claims to make surfing a better experience for users on slower connections. The move is clearly targeted at the broader mobile broadband market and particularly at the netbook segment.
The new browser, called ‘Turbo’, aims to improve the surfing speeds by 4 times. It will do this by first sending the webpage to the Opera servers for compression and then displaying the compressed webpage on the device.
With an estimated 80% compression, some resolution loss can be expected. However, Opera is firm on its claim that the browser will display web pages as they are meant to be and it will do this while also integrating plug-ins like
The product would bring significant relief to those who are frustrated with their slow mobile broadband connection or even those who are still stuck with a low speed fixed line connection (click here the offers for free laptops from the top ISP’s).
Even though mobile broadband speeds are increasing, they are still not at a satisfactory level, and there are gaps between actual end user speeds and advertised ones. Therefore, the new browser could potentially reduce a lot of frustration for the users wanting to get online on the go.
